   Show Maytas doors [12/01 06:35PM]

Y S Rajashekar Reddy, chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, has asked his chief secretary to review all Maytas projects in the state and the grounds on which they were given.

Remember Reddy is the one who had given clean chit to Satyam when world been scared and skeptical. When Metro man E Sreedharan called foul over awarding contract to Myatas to build Hyderabad Metro rail, the CM had ridiculed him while the government threatened him of defamation suit. Sreedharan had termed it as a scandalous real estate deal.

With his words turning proven prophecy Reddy not left with choice but to bite the bullet. But, our CM Yeddyurappa has anything to learn from this?

In Karnataka minimum of ten infrastructure projects have been handed over to Maytas, while Satyam’s EMRI (Emergency Management and Research Institute) is promoting ambitious Arogya Kavacha (108 help line) on public private partnership basis, which is not really free service. Maytas have bagged contract to build airports in Shimoga and Gulbarga, elevated toll express highway connecting Bangalore and Electronic City. Even the company has its hands on many projects including Bangalore Metro, Bangalore- Mysore Express Highway.

The projects put together have generated thousands of crores of business to the tainted company, and should it be continuing?

A top official said the government was just concerned about the contractual obligations the companies had entered in and the government would have no issue if the company was able to complete the projects with in deadline.

It is not as simple as it is. Public money and quality of the significant infrastructure projects are in the hands that are not clean. While it reflects on the very social safety, the government must not hesitate to take proactive steps.

No lame excuses please.
