Government saved its face by putting off Bengaluru Habba. Otherwise chief minister would have been beatified to the ‘Nerohood’ giving birth to a new proverb: “ Yeddy celebrated when the nation burned”.
Mumbai mayhem and terror scare lurking in the state would not only justify postponement of the city carnival, but the horrendous status state's finances should have been a cause of worry.
The empty coffers have prompted the government appealing RBI for overdraft. The government has no money for the developmental works pending. Chief minister Yeddyurappa had admitted that his government could not achieve even 30 percent of budgetary promises.
But, this did not pull Yeddyurappa back from sanctioning Rs.2.5 crore for Bengaluru Habba that was a private affair till last year. Yeddyurappa, projecting himself as the most generous chief minister, is in a donation spree. He has announced government would spend Rs 100 crore for Mysore Dasara, from next year, while the requirement is only Rs. 4 crore. He had given Rs. 10 crore for the just ended nine-day heritage festival.
Worse, Yeddyurappa is also finance minister, who is supposed be the guardian of taxpayers’ money.
The finance deportment is expected to be tight fisted making other deportments sweating out to get each Paisa, but here is a free-for-all situations and every Tom, Dick and Harry is feasting at the cost of government’s money.
Is it the testimony to Deve Gowda’s contention that Yeddyuarappa is an ignorant adminstrator?
