With power comes bigger responsibilities; with big bikes comes bigger bill and ego issues.
Yesterday, on my way to office, I was riding (Royal Enfield Electra 5 speed) in the bicycle lanes (yes, I break rules and enjoy it too) of BRT. A silly biker suddenly came on my way and completely unaware, I lost control on my heavy-duty bike and suddenly a ‘physical relationship’ was established between my ankle area and the silencer. I am still feeling the heat (as if a piece of bread has been put in a toaster and never taken out or someone forgot to switch off the toaster). Today was a special day for me as I was all prepared to meet the real maestro A R Rahman. Dream comes true. But this bike came between Rahman and me. Suddenly it broke down a kilometer away from the venue. I kept on kicking the starter for atleast an hour. An icecream vendor who passed by me mocked saying,“jab itni bhaari gaadi sambhali nahi jaati to li kyo.” Then, the passersby were looking at my bike and me as if I have landed an airplane on the road. Pity, amusement and jealousy — I saw every emotion in their eyes. I was late for the event so I decided to park the bike somewhere and then rush for the event. Finding a safe (at least that seems like) place is a tedious task. So I dragged it for almost half a kilometer to Sai Baba Temple at Lodhi Road. Then, a guy came and enquired if my bike needed to be repaired. To which I replied,” Mujhe itni badi bike to drag karne me mazaa nahi aa raha hai.” Thankfully that guy understood that I am irritated and didn’t retaliate to rather my rude comment. To top it all, he was a mechanic and within a minute he repaired it. When I asked him how much do I need to pay, he said, “ Sir 300 rupaya lagega.” I was zapped. I said, “ wo kyo”! To which he replied, “ Itna paisa de nahi sakte to itni badi bike li kyo?” My legs are still paining.
