As religious violence spreads and blasts resound across different parts of the world, including India and Pakistan, do take some time out to watch this youtube video

which a friend shared with me.

The lady featured in the video, Wafa Sultan, 47, was born to a Sunni Muslim family in Damascus, Syria and now resides in the US. She allegedly arrived in California with her husband Moufid (now David) in the late 80s on a tourist visa and later they managed to get US citizenship on account of an amnesty law for farmers. Wafa has become notable since the 9/11 attacks for her participation in political debates, essays some TV appearances on Al-Jazeera and CNN. She was named in 'Time Magazine' in a list of 100 influential people in the world "whose power, talent or moral example is transforming the world." 'Time' stated that "Sultan's influence flows from her willingness to express openly critical views on Islamic extremism that are widely shared but rarely aired by other Muslims....

A MiD DAY reader  had suggested last week that after the Visarjan of the Ganesh idols the next priority should be to get our NETAS to do a COMBINED visarjan of the really ugly hoardings put up by them wishing all of us a Happy Ganesh Chaturthi.

Failing which the municipal authorities should levy a hefty fine on the politicians whose mugs adorn the hoardings.

Brilliant idea. What say you?

   Big B's big 'disappearance' [11/09 10:28AM]

It was a classic case of Now You See Him, Now You Don't.

Admitted, the Big B and his family are going through trying times. But that's no excuse for sending the Mumbai police all over the place on Wednesday night.

Just when the cops were up to their necks making sure that the Ganpati immersion bandobast passed off smoothly, they had to deal with the 'disappearance' of Amitabh Bachchan from Sahar airport. Turns out neither he nor anybody from his retinue had bothered to inform the police they were coming back on Wednesday night....

   Khandala landslide -- cops napping [10/09 09:22AM]
(0) comments,   (0) trackbacks

I've done my share of travelling in Europe and the US and can safely say that the Mumbai-Pune Expressway ranks with the best roads anywhere in the world.

Except that during the monsoon, all hell breaks loose when a landslide happens.

There was one near Khandala Ghat late last night and when the MiD DAY reporter on duty called up the cops, the Khadki outpost police patrols were quite in the dark. Ditto the Lonavla police who said they did not have any information because, "the landslide did not take place in their jurisdiction". ...
