I have a problem with the way NGOs operate. Recently an NGO was launched in Delhi to raise funds. All those who attended the party held at a five star hotel belonged to the creamiest level of Delhi. They came in swankiest car, dressed in Armani suits, escorted by sexy hotel staff and acted as if they were extremely committed to the positive change in society. But when it came to bidding for two cricket bats signed by Indian team and two balls autographed by Anil Kumble, there were no takers. Barring a doctor who bought one of the bats for Rs 2.75 lakh, all other buyers were from the organizers’ team itself. The NGO rose close to five lakh from the auction. But little did they know that the bill for liquor, food and venue would far exceed the amount raised. What’s the use of such fund raising event? ...
