It's a great pity to true lovers of the game that Andrew Symonds will not be seen during the India vs Australia series.

I'm not sure whether the Indian team is disappointed. One more tough customer out of the reckoning, they would reckon.

The plus side is that there will less concerns for rival captains Anil Kumble and Ricky Ponting. For, you can never guarantee that two hot heads will not be up to something....

WONDER how good Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland was with his timing while batting.  Yes, Sutherland, who has been very strong in his opinion about Andrew Symonds, has played the game. He figured in four first-class matches for Victoria as a medium pacer.

“We want Andrew Symonds absolutely committed and wanting to be there. If he can’t answer that question, it may be that he’s lost to the team,” he said recently. Many would think Sutherland would be better off saving his emphatic words when he meets Symonds face to face instead of obliging the media with a comment like that. But then, he’s the boss!...

IT’S a pity channel Star Cricket which is not always occupied with live telecasts did not bring the ICC awards live to their viewers. Sure, there would be a limited audience to view them at night, showing it a day later takes away the charm of the event. Live coverage and a repeat the following day would have been great to have, Sirs.

AUSTRALIA umpire Simon Taufel has claimed yet another Umpire of the Year award from the International Cricket Council.

Delighted he would be. But should the cricket czars be happy? No way.

Wonder whether Sourav Ganguly will announce his retirement one of these days. He should. He's had enough of triumphs and trials and should go out with dignity. I'm not sure he will survive another scrap. A cricketing fight and a physical one are not as close as the distance between two sets of stumps.

Ganguly's main problem (if the new set of selectors follow the current regime's decision) is that he would have to go back to first-class cricket which is hard once you've played at a certain level....
